Imbolc ~ 1st February 2024

Last November I planted a few packs of native spring flower bulbs in the verge opposite my house. It’s a boring, grassy slope that’s cut once or twice a year by the local council, so I decided that I’d do a bit of guerrilla gardening!

I went out for a walk this morning and I was excited to see a few snowdrop blooms poking through the grass!  It really made me happy to see them because, for me, that’s an indication that Imbolc, the Spring and the sun’s warmth are nearly here.

Our coven celebrates Imbolc every year, with appropriate deities and seasonal magick. It’s a joy to connect with the land, the Gods and my chosen family at this time.

The Imbolc we celebrate today is based on a Celtic tradition from Neolithic Ireland and Scotland.  It marks the halfway point between the Winter and Spring equinoxes. Originally thought to be a farmers event, it’s changed many times over the ages and different Pagan paths celebrate in many different ways, but the theme of the returning Sun always endures.
